The Memory Disorder Clinic at Rigshospitalet provides a co-ordinated, multidisciplinary approach to managing the care of people with or at risk of Huntington’s Disease. Referrals are primarily received from Region Capital and Region Sealand but HD patients and families from all over Denmark can be referred to this clinic by their GP on request. Neurologists, geneticists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and nurses are all part of the multidiciplinary HD team in the clinic. This site is involved both in HD clinical research as well as basic science research projects.

Transportation and parking

It is recommended to use public transportation to Rigshospitalet since parking in the hospital area is very limited. Between 06:30 and 14:45 on week days you must park on the public streets outside of the hospital area - this will most often require that you pay a fee. In such cases it can be recommended to try to park along Edel Sauntes Allé right behind the Memory Clinic.

Trains and buses.
Nørreport station is the nearest train station. From there, several buses go to Rigshospitalet: 6A, 42, 150S, 184th. In addition, a number of other buses stop at Rigshospitalet: 3A, 173E, 185, 94N. For planning your trip with public transportation please use: www.rejseplanen.dk.

The Danish Huntington Registry

The registry (DHR) is located at Section for Neurogenetics, Institute of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, The Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. 

DHR is a nationwide research registry approved by the Danish Data Protection Agency Registeret that currently contains information about approximately 14.000 individuals (carriers and non-carriers of the HD mutation) distributed into 540 families.  

DHR consists of an electronic database with family information and laboratory results and a manual registry of clinical information (in Danish).

Research Projects

Section for Neurogenetics conduct genetic- and molecular biological research on hereditary neurodegenerative diseases. The focus is in particular on Huntington's disease (HD) and the other closely related trinucleotide repeat diseases but hereditary forms of other neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia and Dystonia are of our interest. This research group has a long tradition of research on HD, which includes clinical studies of HD patients as well as cell and animal models of the disease.

Clinical and para clinical studies of HD patients for early diagnosis and identification of biomarkers (MRI, SPECT and PET) and sleep studies are currently ongoing. We are working on identifying genetic factors that influence the age at onset of HD, we study glucose intolerance and predisposition to diabetes in transgenic mice (R6 / 1) and HD patients and we downregulate huntingtin and describe the effects in cell models (NT2 / NT2-N).
